The Giants defeated the Chicago Cubs by a final score of 7 to 2. Anthony DeSclafani was the winning pitcher, Zach Davies was the losing pitcher.

Kicking it off in style

2ND INNING – Davies made quick work the Giants in the first inning, but the Giants scored first with a Wilmer Flores lead-off triple and a Brandon Crawford single. Flores isn’t exactly known for his speed – his 24.7 feet/second sprint speed is 376th in MLB. In addition, he has never been faster than 25.8 (he hit the mark in 2015, good for 432nd in MLB). The Giants had a chance for more runs with the bases loaded and one out, but DeScalafani and Wade struck out. SFG 1, CHC 0

3RD INNING – The Cubs quickly responded to take the lead – public enemy number one Joc Pederson homer which drove in Eric Sogard. On two strikes, Pederson took a 94 mph pitch opposite field into the Bay – marking his second Splash Hit Homer (last was on June 12th, 2016). Between his first two at-bats – Pederson hit the ball 829 feet (flyout in 1st + HR in 3rd). CHC 2, SFG 1

4TH INNING – Add Anthony DeScalfani to the list of pitchers who can hit. He hit a double (99 mph exit velo) off Davies that scored Tauchman. SFG 2, CHC 2

5TH INNING – Davies allowed back-to-back singles to Buster Posey and Alex Dickerson to begin the inning. Dickerson would end up getting picked off by Contreas. The Cubs removed Davies after he walked Flores for Rex Brothers. Brothers began his time by throwing three straight balls and then allowing a THREE RUN BOMB to Brandon Crawford. SFG 5, CHC 2

7TH INNING – After a crazy series of daring base running moves by Dubon, Donovan Solano scores him on a sac-fly. Steven Duggar continues to the party, with an RBI single of his own. SFG 7, CHC 2
