Giants vs Chicago Cubs – Game Preview (6/3/21)
The Giants resume their homestand with a four-game series against the red-hot Chicago Cubs (9-1 record their last 10). The Giants began the homestand on Monday with a two-game series against the Angels – a series they split after dropping Tuesday’s game 8-1.
Before tonight’s actions, the Giants announced a series of roster moves:
- RHP Logan Webb & OF Mike Yastrzemski were placed on the 10 injured list
- RHP Nick Tropeano and IF/OF Jason Vosler were recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.
KEVIN! – PITCHER OF THE MONTH
Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for May yesterday. He went 5-0 with an ERA less than one and 49 strikeouts. The last Giants pitcher to win the award? Madison Bumgarner in August 2014.
Gausman has been leading a starting rotation that has been stellar – the group has posted a 3.04 ERA (third-best in MLB) with 25 quality outings (fourth-most in MLB)
This Giants team has grit – they’ve proved time and time again they can bounce back after a defeat. They are 14-6 after a defeat (second-best in MLB). In addition, they are 15-8 through their first 23 home games and have a chance tonight to start 16-8 (or better) at home for the sixth time in the last quarter-century.
Tomorrow’s game is scheduled for 6:45 pm PT.
