A Place To Bury Strangers – “Too Tough To Kill”

APTBS hails from New York City and plays what I’d describe as contemporary modern rock. It’s a seamless blend of styles like shoegaze, psych-rock and postpunk. The band consists of Oliver Ackerman, Lia Simone Braswell and Dion Lunadon, although their roster of past members is extensive.

Pinned, their 2018 release on Dead Oceans, has a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-meets-Sonic Youth thing going on. They sing in monotone harmonies that seem to describe a certain dystopian absurdism, calling to mind the fractured, amoral sci-fi of Philip K. Dick or William S. Burroughs.

The song “Too Tough To Kill” has this nice video by Colin Marchon.
