Hey there from KXSF 102.5 FM! Can you believe the holiday season is upon us? Where does all the time go?
Thursday is Thanksgiving and you know what that means! Turkey, travel, televised football. It also means that Giving Tuesday is just around the corner. Giving Tuesday is a chance to encourage people to donate money to their favorite charities (Hello! Yoo hoo! Look at us!). We know there are many worthy causes out there and all of them are competing for your attention.
Won’t you consider San Francisco Community Radio for a donation on Giving Tuesday? SFCR is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3). For nearly seven years, SFCR has been working to build up a community radio station and in 2018, we will arrive in the promised land: KXSF 102.5 FM will be on the air, serving the San Francisco community.
It has been a long journey but we need to raise the final bit of money to pay for equipment for the new station. Our first leg goal in our #driveto1025 campaign is $80,000 and we have raised over 56 percent of that. We’re so close we can taste it! But we’re not there yet and we need your helt.
All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law + there are a plethora of ways you can donate (see below).
Before that though, here’s a little intro about Giving Tuesday…
Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 when a group at the 92nd Street YMCA in New York City realized that all of the “days” created around Thanksgiving centered around shopping – Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. What about giving to charities? A day needed to be created for that, said the folks at the 92nd Street Y.
Since then, #GivingTuesday has become more than just a hashtag on Twitter. It has become a “movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy.”
The #driveto1025 is a three-year capital campaign to raise the money to ensure that KXSF doesn’t just make it on the air, it remains a permanent part of the San Francisco community. The three-year goal is $300,000, with three legs. The current leg is to purchase the equipment needed to start broadcasting.
Any amount helps – $10, $25, $50, $100. If you can spare the money to write a bigger check, we can tell you that this is a great cause and you will be making a difference to countless high school and college students here in the Bay Area who are interested in radio.
